AICHD Honorary Doctorate Award is presented to Mrs. Sarita Agnihotri

Honoring a Life of Impact Mrs. Sarita Agnihotri Receives Honorary Doctorate Award in Social Work

The All India Council of Honorary Doctorate proudly bestows the Honorary Doctorate Award in Social Work upon Mrs. Sarita Agnihotri—a woman whose selfless service and passionate advocacy for environmental sustainability, women empowerment, and child welfare have made a profound impact on society.

Hailing from the tribal district of Mandla in Madhya Pradesh, Mrs. Agnihotri has long stood as a beacon of change and grassroots leadership. With an academic foundation in Chemistry (M.Sc.) and Education (B.Ed.), she chose a path of community service over personal gain, touching lives across villages, towns, and states.

🌱 Championing Environmental Consciousness

Her environmental journey began in 1992 during a visit to Nepal, where the sight of polythene waste amidst natural beauty ignited a fire within her. Since then, she has spearheaded numerous environmental campaigns, most notably:

  • Historic Legal Victory: She filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL No. 161/2002) in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, arguing the case herself before Justice Deepak Mishra (later Chief Justice of India). Her efforts led to a landmark judgment with 26-point directives banning polythene in the state—a foundational step toward environmental reform in India.
  • Eco-Friendly Rituals: She encouraged the use of wheat flour diyas for river rituals and promoted eco-conscious Ganesh and Durga Visarjan practices using biodegradable materials and designated pools.
  • Green Gifting: Replacing flower bouquets with live plant bunches has now become a respected trend, thanks to her campaigns.
  • Organic Movements: From making natural Holi colors to promoting cow dung for Holika Dahan and turning invasive “Gajar Ghas” into organic compost—her innovations have reshaped local eco-practices.

💪 Empowering Women and Children

Sarita ji’s unwavering commitment to social upliftment is especially evident in her work with women and children:

  • Women Empowerment Initiatives: She organized women into groups to produce cotton carry bags, cow dung cakes, herbal products, jaggery cubes, and more. Her creative method for faster cotton bag production even gained international appreciation in New Zealand.
  • Skill Development: Sewing, food preservation, spice-making, and yoga training were provided to economically marginalized women, helping them become self-reliant.
  • Celebrating with Purpose: Through her initiative “Ek Nek Kaam Desh Ke Naam”, she encouraged people to celebrate birthdays and special occasions by visiting orphanages and old age homes.

🐾 Advocacy for Animal Welfare

Her passion extends to the voiceless. She launched awareness drives on animal rights and encouraged cruelty-free practices in her district, receiving strong community support.
